ALA's "Finding and Keeping Library Jobs" Webinar

ALA's free webinar, "Finding and Keeping Library Jobs," that was held earlier today, January 18th, offered information that LIS students may find useful as they begin their job search. The presentation was conducted by Diane K. Kovacs who is a librarian, web teacher and a consultant. Her presentation discussed many resources to help librarians find and choose a job.

If you were unable to attend the webinar, Ms. Kovacs maintains a website which has a link to her PowerPoint presentation and other resources. She was generous enough to allow me to share the login information with the students at WSU. To access this information on her website select the link for "Finding and Keeping Library Jobs: Employment Researching, Networking, and Professional Development Resources." You will then need to login as a guest with the enrollment key of "jobs."

ALA introduces "Getting a Job in a Tough Economy" toolkit

Good luck to all the new grads out there! ALA is developing a toolkit for library job-hunters. They also welcome your feedback, so check it out at http://www.getajob.ala.org. A short description:
The “Getting a Job in a Tough Economy” toolkit is an interactive website with tips, narrative and suggested links and readings, a blog, podcasts, timelines and activities/checklists for new librarians and support staff, those looking to change position, people who have been laid off, and others who are having difficulty finding the right position. The site will be a one-stop resource including and/or linking to information prepared for members from units within ALA, as well as linking to information about best practices in job searching from any field. The toolkit will shine a spotlight on the resources that ALA already offers, highlighting why they are especially valuable in the current economy.
